December 2017 is here, Christmas is fast approaching and people are hurrying around tidying up their yards and properties for the festive season.
Did you know that Kiwis throw away about 30% more rubbish over the summer holiday period than at other times of year? Our waste almost doubles in the week between Christmas and New Year and an extra 50,000 tonnes of waste is produced during the Christmas week.
If you are planning a clean-up and junk and rubbish removal is on the cards in the coming weeks, keep in mind that opening times for Auckland rubbish dumps may vary over the holiday period. Here is a list of opening times for Auckland regional transfer stations for the Christmas holiday period.
West Auckland

Accepts: General rubbish. Some hazardous waste (in household quantities with no extra charge) such as batteries, computers, paint, fridges, some chemicals and light bulbs. For abandoned vehicles you need to make an appointment.
Does not accept: Hazardous waste such as: asbestos, medical waste, ballasts (including fluorescent light fittings), and waste likely to create excessive dust or particles.
Normal operating hours: Mon-Fri 6am-6pm; Sat-Sun 8am-4.30pm; public holidays 9am-3pm.
Holiday times: Closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Note: We have noticed many people are still leaving their rubbish and junk on the road kerbside for collection. We strongly advise against this as this is considered a public highway and can carry hefty fines. Always have your rubbish situated inside your property and the Dump Me rubbish truck will remove it from there.
